Southern Region

Surrounded by the Gulf of Thailand to the East and the Andaman Sea to the West, the Southern Region has plenty of luxury beach holiday destinations to choose from. Clear sand, blue sea, fresh breeze, seafood and friendly folks, these invariably typify any given province in the South of Thailand.

Daily flights leave from Bangkok to major airports in the South: Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai (Songkhla), Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani etc. Trains and coaches are also an option for a more leisurely journey. Pretty much every province is a major luxury destination in itself, the South having been crowned “the Pearl of the Andaman”: Phuket, the most famous holiday island with its beautiful coasts and beaches offers a variety of world-class comfort, notably on Mai Khao beach - Renaissance, Le Meridian and Amari among others; Krabi with its scatter of smaller islands and national parks, the must-go place for rock climbing, snorkelling and sunset catching, also houses a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Sofitel, Centara etc.; Phang Nga with the Similan Islands for scuba diving; Surat Thani with Koh Samui - the list goes on. Each province are within hours’ commute of one another by car, but visitors also have the option of transport ferry between major piers that connect the provinces. Must not miss: dishes prepared from freshly-caught seafood from the haul of the day that local fishermen bring in - prepared exclusively and expertly by the chefs at selected high-end restaurants and dining spaces.

Make no mistake as sun, sea and sand are not the only highlights the South has to offer. A region with strong local identity and cultural diversity, the South also boasts their own attractions mainland: visit Khao Sok National Park in Surat Thani for a touch with nature; check out waterfalls and cascades in the province of Trang; stop by the historic temple of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Nakhon Si Thammarat. These side trips are relatively manageable from any major cities by ground transport.
